How to Improve Your Aim on PS5
Practical steps to aim better on PS5: sensitivity and dead zone settings, thumbstick caps, precision rings and a 10-minute warm-up routine.
Most controller players lose fights because of overshoot, not reaction time. Fixing that is part settings, part hardware, part routine.
Step 1 — Fix your sensitivity
Lower your look sensitivity one notch below what feels comfortable, then raise your aim-down-sights sensitivity slightly. Fast turning is rarely what wins fights; controlled tracking is.
Step 2 — Reduce dead zone
Set the stick dead zone as low as your controller allows without drifting. Test in a firing range: if the crosshair moves on its own, raise it by one until it stops.
Step 3 — Upgrade the sticks
Taller, textured thumbstick caps increase the physical distance your thumb travels, which means finer control per pixel of aim. Precision rings add resistance near the outer edge so you stop over-flicking.
Step 4 — Warm up for 10 minutes
- Three minutes of static target tracking.
- Three minutes of strafing targets, no shooting — tracking only.
- Two minutes of close-range flicks.
- Two minutes of one-shot precision at range.
Step 5 — Keep the hardware healthy
Stick drift ruins aim faster than any setting. Keep the sticks clean, use caps to reduce wear, and recalibrate or replace a controller once drift starts.
